Hi, I'm Andy Caddick and I've been buying, trading
and selling all sorts of Saab's for the last 20
years.
December is not the busiest time of year for the
motor trade, by the middle of the month prospective
purchasers are very elusive and dark evenings
are a turn off for most privately advertised cars.
What's HOT
Late 9000s with low mileage are fetching book
value, with Anniversary's especially in favour,
with the last of these now hitting auctions (lease
companies sell vehicles 3-4 years).
9-5's have started to become plentiful and offer
excellent value starting from as little as £7000
for early base cars with around 100k miles. Estates
are still hard to find at less than £13000,
with main dealers holding most stock.
900 classics have always had a very strong following
and seem to generate lots of interest from £500
bargains up to low mileageT16s at £5000,
with black and silver being the most popular colours,
and leather adding £500.
Abbot racing T7
I bought one at sensible money (68k miles, 2 owners),
priced it up at £3995.00 at 9.30 am, sold
3pm the same day. Pity it's the only one I've
ever seen, and doubt if I'll get another.
What's NOT
9000s with massive mileages, cars with 150k miles
are struggling to find homes, people seem to be
forgetting that Saab built their reputation on
longevity!
If you're thinking of buying one of these cars
they will probably have had the steering rack
replaced etc. by now and offer inexpensive motoring.
Convertibles
If you're thinking ahead to summer, now is the
time to buy, with most auction cars not fetching
reserve and most dealers holding stock. Remember
that April is only 4 months away and all these
cars will then be in demand with little chance
of a bargain.
Summary
If you're buying, haggle! There are discounts
and deals everywhere. If you're selling, cheaper
cars should find homes quite easily and even a
9-3 cab will find a buyer if priced realistically.
Happy hunting
Andy
